How can I be more environmental?

One way to improve your environmental health is to recycle and use environmentally friendly products.

It is important to understand that the earth has limited resources.  We need to do more than recycle, we need to use recycled materials.  Mother Nature provides many things. As we take from her resources, we need to return what we can.

There are some important and small things that you can do to help improve your environmental health.

  1. Bring your own cloth bags to the supermarket.
  2. Buy items with minimal packaging.
  3. Buy items that are made from recycled materials.
  4. Bring your own reusable coffee cup or water bottle to school or clean with environmentally sound products.
  5. Limit your use of non-reusable products.

While this is not an exhaustive list, it provides a good starting point to improve your environmental health.

Another way to improve your environmental health is to protect yourself from environmental elements.  One of these elements is the sun.  It is extremely important that you protect your skin and eyes from repeated exposure to the sun.  Limiting sun exposure is important but not always practical.  When you venture outside, there are a few things that you should do.

  1. Apply sunscreen with at least a SPF of 15.
  2. Avoid sunlight during peak hours, between the hours of 10am to 4 pm.
  3. Wear a hat.
  4. Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before sun exposure, this gives the sunscreen enough time to bind to your skin.
  5. Use at least 1 ounce of sunscreen per application, and reapply at least every 2 hours. You may need to apply more frequently if you are participating in an activity such as swimming or sweating excessively.
